Scholarships at Mountain Valley Treatment Center Grow 80%

Mountain Valley Treatment Center (MVTC), a not-for-profit residential treatment center in New Hampshire serving young people with anxiety and OCD, is grateful for the generosity of their numerous dedicated donors. In the last year, gifts to support scholarships and financial assistance for Mountain Valley Treatment Center residents grew, even during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Without these funds, many families would not be able to find the help needed to acquire the quality, evidence-based treatment for their child provided by Mountain Valley Treatment Center.
The Lighthouse Charitable Foundation has supported Mountain Valley families four times in the past six years. They recently awarded a grant of $30,000 for a resident to complete her treatment at Mountain Valley and to transition smoothly to a supportive boarding school. A past beneficiary of these funds states, “Finding a place to help our daughter with her mental health challenges was so difficult. We searched the entire East Coast and found a place not far from our hometown in New Hampshire, thousands of miles away from our home in South Carolina. The part we thought would be even harder, paying for three months at such a great program, turned out to be so much easier! Thanks to a Lighthouse Foundation, our daughter was able to stay and grow. As a 23-year-old, she still uses skills she learned at MVTC to manage her anxiety. We owe MVTC a debt of gratitude for all they did to inspire our daughter to believe in herself and give her hope for a more positive future.”
Due to the untimely death of Mountain Valley’s founder, Don Vardell, The Don Vardell Scholarship Fund was founded in September 2020. The fund provides need-based financial aid to those families who, without such assistance, would not be able to send their children to Mountain Valley. Don Vardell was a legend at Mountain Valley and a colleague to many at varying treatment programs. While he accomplished much during his years of leadership at MVTC, he was always disappointed when a potential resident could not enroll because the costs were prohibitive. Many private gifts have been given this year to support this fund. Both Kayte & Jay Knower and Dr. Jerry Bubrick have generously committed to giving in perpetuity to the Don Vardell Scholarship Fund. This scholarship in Don’s name has been formed with the intention that Mountain Valley will be able to serve even more students suffering from debilitating anxiety, OCD, and depression.
