Summer Experiences with Boulder Creek Academy

“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” ~Albert Einstein
What is something highly valued at Boulder Creek Academy? The summer activities! Getting outdoors and getting to learn and experience new things at Boulder Creek Academy is always anticipated and enjoyed by students and staff alike. BCA is fortunate in that it is located near some of the most beautiful landscapes in the area, full of rich history, physically engaging activities, and the ability to engage in nature in amazing ways. Providing opportunities for students, helping to cultivate the appreciation for these incredible places, but also to provide opportunities for growth in themselves is what these moments are all about.
Summer activities include things like the week long Native American experience, learning about the 7 Gifts (respect, honesty, courage, humility, wisdom, generosity and love), biking the Hiawatha trail in Kellogg, zip-lining in Coeur d’Alene or heading out to one of the local falls, lakes or peaks to hike or mountain bike.
Recently a group had the opportunity to experience Yellowstone National Park. Students spent the week learning about geothermal features of the park, getting to see bison, a grizzly bear and learn more about the pH levels of the various water sources throughout the park. These trips provide not only educational opportunities, but opportunities of growth within themselves. Cassie, the math teacher at BCA shared, “The students were sworn in as Yellowstone Junior Rangers. It was a wonderfully exhausting week. Tonight’s dinner talk about what the kids appreciate about each other was incredibly emotional and sincere. Several mentioned wanting to see more leadership from each other and how fun it was to be around people they don’t normally hangout with. It solidified this as an incredible trip thanks to all the participants.”
Another adventure offered was the Salmon River trip! Students and families had the opportunity of participating in this experience together. Kenton Clairmont, Academic Director attended this 5 day trip, expressed the benefits of this opportunity. “Having the students and their families getting to hang out together in an environment that is out of their comfort zone, gives them a bonding experience like no other.”
Boulder Creek staff has always seen the value of outdoor experiences, but after the past year that everyone has experienced, opportunities like these are valued and appreciated so much more.
