Sunrise RTC uses Spring Break to Focus on Positive Psychology

Every year, Sunrise RTC students and teachers celebrate Spring Break. This year was no exception but, with travel limited, staff decided to have the girls stay-cation and focus on the good. Positive psychology and mindfulness were the themes for the 2021 spring break.
Taken from the popular book Learning to Love by Tich Naht Hahn are the four elements of true love, which are compassion, loving kindness, equanimity, and joy. The girls participated in activities and groups in these four categories in blitz style allowing them to interact with peers, therapists, and staff outside of their normal cohort.
The girls at Sunrise RTC were highly engaged in the positive psychology blitz. In one example, they were given space to appreciate themselves and their peers through positive affirmations, which in itself brings feelings of connection, meaning, and joy. Taking a step back from crisis and focusing on what is going well allows for feelings of accomplishment within the healing journey.
