Sandhill Center is an innovative, nationally-recognized residential program for children between the ages of eight and thirteen who are experiencing significant difficulties in functioning at home, in school, or in the community. Most of our residents lack the capacity to adequately regulate their emotional or mental states, and therefore present with emotional and behavioral challenges.

Our goal as treatment providers for children is to create a therapeutic environment in which care and connection are hard to resist. Our treatment model encourages the development of healthy interpersonal relationships, while confronting behaviors that interfere with that connection. We integrate key principles of neurobiology, along with emotionally focused work, to help create powerful, focused and highly individualized intervention strategies. Caseloads are kept small to maximize therapeutic support for each resident.

We are located in Los Lunas, a rural community about 20 miles south of Albuquerque, NM. The facility is located in a homelike setting, with horses, dogs, a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, etc.

Our therapists spend considerable time integrated into the residential milieu, where healthy relationships are built and corrective emotional experiences can occur on an ongoing basis. In addition, our therapists conduct staffings, create treatment plans, provide individual, group, and family therapy, and complete required documentation in a streamlined and timely manner. They also communicate regularly with families and referral sources.

We look to Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics to help us create powerful, focused, trauma-informed intervention strategies. This position offers the unique opportunity to receive ongoing paid training directly from Dr. Bruce Perry and the Child Trauma Academy.

A successful candidate generates creative solutions and new ideas, has excellent relational skills and enjoys working as part of an energetic and supportive team.
