Trails Carolina, a therapeutic outdoor program for youth and adolescents challenged with behavioral and mental health issues, has received a green light from the state of North Carolina which recently completed their annual inspection.

“The state arrives unannounced annually to facilitate a comprehensive compliance check and the results are back. We are pleased to share that we are in excellent standing and our license has been renewed yet again,” explained Executive Director Jeremy Whitworth. “We also had CARF accredit us for another three years, which is extremely validating and a testament to our commitment to providing the highest quality programming to our participants and their families.”

The Trails Carolina team, including master’s-level therapists, trained wilderness instructors, and dedicated support staff, works tirelessly to ensure the program meets the highest standard for quality care.

Trails Carolina is a nature-based therapy program located in Lake Toxaway, North Carolina. The program’s unique transitional model featuring two weeks in base camps and two weeks engaging in outdoor experiential therapy is unique and well-suited for today’s parents who tend to be more wary of traditional wilderness therapy. Moreover, students at Trails Carolina are engaged in academics in traditional classrooms allowing smoother matriculation back to home schools.

Ten years of outcome data, collected from more than 1,000 students and parents, indicate that 98% of participants report significant improvements in behavior and symptoms a year after graduation.
