Trails Carolina Launches Trauma-Focused Webinar for Parents

Next month Trails Carolina, a wilderness therapy program for pre-teens and adolescents, is expanding on family programming by offering a new Trauma-focused webinar. This webinar is specifically designed to help parents who have experienced trauma or have a child who has experienced trauma and will be presented by Family Therapist Erin Cantalini, LPC.
This webinar allows Trails parents to connect with each other in a shared group process. For many families, Trails Carolina is the first place that a parent has been able to connect with other parents to discuss their difficulties, without the fear of judgement. Being able to create space to talk about these issues in a communal setting helps to create validation and not feeling so alone.
Additionally, a child may reveal past traumas for the first time with their Trails therapist. If it occurred unknowingly to the parents, they are just now understanding its existence and impact on their child. Many parents feel deep shame or guilt. The webinar will help parents understand how they can best be supportive of their child. This webinar will be a safe and supportive space for parents to exchange their own experiences.
Parents may be referred to the class by their Trails Primary Therapist, Trails Family Therapist or their Educational Consultant. “We hope that by sharing this information, it allows parents to have more choices in how to intervene in the future and how to better understand the needs of someone who has experienced trauma, to help de-personalize their struggles,” says Erin Cantalini, MA, LPC, Family Therapist.
Cantalini is focusing on three elements regarding trauma in her webinar presentation: the past, the impact, and the future. She coaches parents through understanding trauma, how it impacts their families, and then provides them with information on how to support the ongoing work of healing from trauma.
