Explorations

Explorations is one of the most experienced adolescent transition program options in the country. Our yearlong residential program provides a safe bridge for students to practice living in the ‘real world’ in healthy and productive ways. For over 30 years, Explorations has provided hundreds of students a safe place to live and learn in real-life, real-time situations, while promising individualized attention within small groups. Co-ed students, ages 13 – 18, get traction in ‘everyday life’ challenges while living in a family-style therapeutic home environment and attending the local public school. Students participate in extra-curricular activities and meet with a tutor regularly. The environment at Explorations is more normative and allows students to actively practice balancing the needs and challenges of school, home, family and personal endeavors – with support. Life skills are taught by our counselors. Students meet with a therapist weekly for individual therapy and group therapy. Family therapy is conducted via web-based video platforms and is enhanced by parent visits to the facility and student visits to home. Parents travel to Explorations regularly to attend scheduled parent weekends. Explorations students are also involved in a variety of outdoor activities such as snowboarding, mountain biking, and kayaking over weekends and during summer months. These outdoor adventures augment each student’s personal growth by enhancing self-confidence and self-esteem. Students contribute to the local community through service work, jobs and volunteerism.
