Onward Transitions: Progress you'll be proud of.
Onward Transitions in Portland, Maine, is a small, independent, owner-operated program for up to 15 bright, motivated, emerging adults in the final stages of learning to live on their own. OT supports actual, sustainable independent living through a combination of face-to-face and virtual therapeutic support. Participants (Members) ages 18-30 never live with us; they live in their own apartments throughout the city.
Members are kind, accepting, bright, and motivated to live on their own. Common clinical foci include mild to moderate forms of anxiety, depression, and executive functioning/ADHD challenges. OT provides multiple sessions of weekly individual and group therapy, and family work by our three full-time, on-site master's level therapists specializing in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT.) The typical length of stay is 12-15 months.
Each member has their own individual schedule. Members gather for meals, therapy, coaching, and any of our 14 group offerings. Members walk, ride, use public transportation, and their own vehicles to get to and from their OT services. When "shelter in place mandates" occur, all program offerings easily pivot to a 100% online format.
Full-time coordinators meet with members weekly to accomplish learning, wellness, career exploration, and community connection goals. OT is open for drop-in visits, spontaneous gatherings, snacks, and camaraderie. OT provides regularly scheduled virtual apartment consults and 24-hour on-call services.
Please call for Covid updates.
