Onward Transitions is for emerging adults in the final stages of learning to live on their own by supporting actual, sustainable independent living and autonomy. Participants (members) are between the ages 18-30. We help families locate and independently rent apartments in the neighborhood of their choice in Portland, Maine. Members do not ever live with us. Portland, ME has a vibrant young adult culture and is a gender-expansive friendly community.
Member challenges include mild to moderate anxiety, depression and/or executive functioning challenges. We practice harm-reduction in all lifestyle choices. All staff complete background, criminal, drivers license checks and are Safe Zone trained.
Everyone has their own schedule. Living independently, members are working on the goals they have established with their therapist. Members have access to the Pine House, a residential type home on the border of the University of Southern Maine, and the Hay Loft, a suite of offices, art studio, common areas and gathering space located in the heart of the Arts District of Portland. There is a steady flow of activity as members come for therapy, appointments, groups, meal prep, 2 meals 6 days a week, and drop-ins. Therapists provide weekly individual, family and group therapy. . Tuition includes all the above. Onward Transitions services are contracted quarterly. Most members are with us for 12 months.
Neighbors is offered by invitation to qualified Pine House members as they transition beyond one year in the full-service membership at the Pine House.
