Dr. Ingrid Boveda, the founder of The Hive Psychological Services, is excited to announce the launch of COGenuity, a service that provides in-house brain mapping/QEEG and neurofeedback to residential and transitional programs and therapeutic boarding schools nationwide. Dr. Boveda, who benefitted from the modality, sought to provide a cost-effective solution that would allow more programs, clinicians, and students to access services while providing a "deep dive" education on the findings.
"Neurofeedback really was life-changing for me," says Boveda, "but I didn't feel like the technician I had knew much about the brain or my brain map, so they couldn't educate me on my results beyond trying to sell me on the treatment. I want students and programs to have a different experience."
Dr. Boveda also learned that many programs had chosen not to add these services to their programming because the start-up costs were prohibitive, particularly in the industry's current climate. She and her team have developed a service that has no start-up costs for the program and does not require the program to maintain a subscription or system, but they can retain some of the profit from the service. Additionally, services with COGenuity include access to a doctoral-level provider that interprets each brain map and meets with the family and treatment team to discuss results and prognosis.
Cassie Stephens, a neurofeedback technician with COGenuity, has already seen the benefit of neurofeedback with students in her programs since beginning services in March. "The collaboration between neurofeedback and other tools in treatment can have long-lasting benefits for mental health. By addressing the physiological and psychological aspects of their challenges, this comprehensive approach can help adolescents break free from ingrained patterns of behavior and develop healthier coping mechanisms and a better ability to use them when needed."
