Live Strong House Strong Parent Summit

Live Strong House recently hosted its Bi-Annual Strong Parent Summit, which surpassed all expectations. This two-day event featured a diverse array of sessions led by our experienced therapists, parent coaches, and program founders. All current LSH parents traveled to Utah to participate, and they had the invaluable opportunity to engage with alumni and enjoy quality time with their children. The summit was a memorable and enriching experience for all involved with Live Strong House.

On Day 1, Founder Mark Spaulding and Parent Coach Beth Hillman guided LSH parents through a session titled "Where do I end and my kids begin?" that focused on resolving conflicts with their children. They presented various scenarios, prompting discussions among the therapists who worked in small groups to strategize on the most effective approaches for handling these situations with their kids. Afterward, Alumni parents and students joined the summit on Thursday to answer questions and share their experiences with LSH. This panel is a parent favorite as alumni are vulnerable and honest in their responses. Parents get to hear the realities of returning home after LSH and had an opportunity to chat with these alumni one on one after the session.

Day 2 of the summit began with a musical performance by LSH students, who sang and played guitar. It was wonderful, and they received a standing ovation from the parents and staff. At Live Strong House, we believe in the importance of play and fun. Everyone, including parents, students, and staff, headed to the Rush Funplex. We enjoyed bowling, laser tag, roller skating, go-karts, and more together, continuing our tradition of bonding through shared experiences and laughter. To end the day, Parent Coach Emil Harker and his son Hunter delivered to parents a presentation called “Conflict that Heals” that centered around enhancing communication with children. Drawing from personal experiences, they offered anecdotes and practical strategies for parents to cultivate a calm and constructive dialogue with their children, even amidst challenging situations. The Parent Summit is an opportunity for LSH parents to come together and create a community with other families who are going through similar hardships and to gain new perspectives on parenting and relationships with their children.
